122. Mastodon

While digging to create a new water hazard on the Burning Tree golf course in 1989, the dragline's shovel hit the skull of this buried mastodon.  Excavation of the pond halted while a scientific team unearthed the fossil, which turned out to be one of the largest and most complete mastodon skeletons ever found.  This replica was made from the original fossil.
